Hand-casted in the USA, this double sided sterling wax seal pendant features the Latin words PER ASPERA AD ASTRA with a 14k gold inlaid star on the front, and your custom phrase on the back.
This Latin phrase means "Through hardship, to the stars." This motto sometimes appears as AD ASTRA PER ASPERA and though both iterations of the phrase are correct, this one is less common. Other translations include "through adversity/difficulties to the stars" and "our aspirations take us to the stars." ASTRA is the Latin root for "astronomy," ASPERA directly translates to "rough" in English, as in "rough terrain." The English word "exasperate" draws its origins from the Latin ASPERA, and indeed many trials in life prove frustrating. However, this phrase recognizes the truth that in your attempts to achieve great things, you will have to pass through some rocky times on your way to your goals. This jewelry is meant to inspire perseverance so that no matter what the world throws at you, you can relish in the challenge because the stars wait just beyond the struggle.

I came across Maritime Supply Co. via social media and the first piece to catch my eye was the Shield of Fatherhood that was perfect for a dear friend of mine. And, so when I finally made the order to purchase that one, I wanted one for myself and the Worthy Journey was that one. I’m a star lover, so of course the gold inlaid star was perfect, but also the Per Aspera Ad Astra-“ hardship through the stars”. I just recently turned 50 and after a couple of pivotal moments, I realized that some things in my life needed changing. And, thus, I’ve began that journey, but as with most change, it hasn’t been easy, and this pendant, which I had custom stamped with Find Your Way, is a reminder to myself that through the hardship, the changes, finding my way is the goal…. I chose to inscribe it with YOUR instead of ME, should I ever want to gift it to my daughter upon a journey of her own. The piece is beautiful in its simplicity, the weight of it just enough to remind you physically that it’s there and I look forward to wearing it!
