Hand-casted in the USA, this double sided wax seal pendant features the Latin words MEMENTO MORI with a skull on one side, and a quote from renowned American president Theodore Roosevelt on the back.

MEMENTO MORI means "Remember you will die." Let this side of the pendant remind you to live every day to its fullest potential, for we are not promised tomorrow - just as the phrase conveys, death is inevitable. This phrase and its imagery (usually a human skull) has been around since the medieval period with roots in classical antiquity and Christianity, but it is still just as relevant today. This is not a morbid message, but instead a positive reminder to make the most of every moment you are given, to recognize the opportunity in every day we wake up and keep breathing. How do you want to live life? To its fullest, or with regrets of joy undiscovered? Life is fleeting, so treasure every gift, and guide others to that same appreciation for life.

THE MAN IN THE ARENA - "The credit goes to the man in the arena." ~Theodore Roosevelt [paraphrased]

This famous speech was delivered by President Theodore Roosevelt at the Sorbonne (University of Paris) in Paris, France in 1910. We'll let Roosevelt speak for himself:
"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."

Man in the arena

I bought this for my oldest son It’s to remind him that he’s entering the arena of life, and that he doesn’t live in my shadow. The glory of his deeds goes to him, it’s important that he knows that and now has a beautiful reminder he can wear. Thank you for a great product ��

Awesome pendant - and great reminder!

In November 2023 I was looking into the candidates pulling petitions to run for our local school board. The TN legislature saw fit two years ago to make our school board elections partisan, and the candidates were largely partisan candidates. As I strongly believe partisan politics do not serve the best interests of our students and teachers, I decided to run as an independent candidate. I entered the race eyes-wide-open to the fact that it would be an uphill battle (my county is very conservative and pretty much always votes Republican - and voter turnout is always low for the August election). Add onto this that I have never run for public office. It was a GREAT experience and I am so glad I decided to run. I met so many great people - people who often told me how they always voted “R” or always voted “D”. But when they took time to engage in a brief discussion, it was awesome to hear how many came around to agreeing with me that school boards shouldn’t be partisan - so many people agreed that the board should be focused on what our parents and teachers feel is most important - NOT what a state or national party platform says, and not what other outside interests think. Fast forward to August…and I lost…by a lot (I received 15% of the vote). But rather than feel bad about this, I’ve reminded myself that it was a great experience…I met so many great people…and that it was so worth the effort to try and make a difference. When someone shared the man in the arena speech, I felt it perfectly encapsulated how I was feeling. And I think it such a great reminder that we need to keep driving from change - not just accepting things and letting other people take the lead. So I looked around and came across this pendant - I LOVE IT! And the memento mori on the front is also a great reminder that life is short, so there’s no time like the present to get out there and contribute to this world we live in. Thank you for creating this pendant and chain! I wear it all the time and it reminds me why I should keep working to make a difference.
